Living In Tarzana

Tarzana is a low-key suburban neighborhood that consists of mostly residential homes, large shopping centers, salons, and upscale grocery stores. This area was named in honor of Edgar Rice Burroughs, a former ranch owner and creator of the children’s storybook hero, Tarzan, thus giving the neighborhood its distinctive name. Tarzana is nestled between the towns of Woodland Hills, Reseda, and Encino, and sits just north of Topanga State Park.

Most of the areas residents are in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains just south of Ventura Blvd. A unique rural area called Melody acres sits just north of the Ventura Freeway. Tarzana is home to two country clubs with golf courses in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Tarzana, like many other districts, has its own recreation center with a gymnasium/auditorium and a park with B.B.Q pits, a lighted baseball diamond, lighted outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, a children’s play area and picnic tables.
